Following a brilliant podium finish at Sepang, Alex Marquez has confirmed he will skip the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix to undergo crucial surgery on his injured right shoulder.
The Gresini Racing rider has been battling physical setbacks ever since a horrifying high-speed crash during the GP Catalunya back in May, which left him with a broken collarbone and severe joint damage.
Despite fighting through the pain barrier upon his return, the Spaniard developed acute bursitis. Speaking after securing a strong third place from pole position in Malaysia, he admitted that painkillers are no longer effective against the relentless agony.

"Tomorrow, from the moment that I came back after the Catalunya accident, I have struggled with my right shoulder," Marquez said regarding his decision to head straight to Madrid for medical intervention.
The surgical procedure will involve extracting the large metal plate from his collarbone and draining severe inflammation fluids that have hindered his training regimen and muscle recovery at home.
"I will try to come back in Portimao. Speaking with the doctors, that is possible, especially because I was suffering a lot in these back-to-back races. So, it was impossible for me to do three in a row," he added, aiming for a strong return aboard his Ducati machine before the season concludes.
