The MotoGP qualifying session at the Malaysian Grand Prix delivered a breathtaking showdown in the dying moments of Q2. Alex Marquez snatched the premier grid position after eclipsing his brother's lap time right at the checkered flag, cementing his status as the ninth different pole-sitter of the current season.
The front row battle intensified as Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta completed the top three positions on the grid. The high-stakes drama unfolded instantly as the pit lane opened, with riders rushing out to maximize their single-lap tire performance on the Sepang asphalt.
Meanwhile, major drama struck the paddock as Jorge Martin officially confirmed his withdrawal from the grand prix weekend. Aprilia communicated the news midway through the opening qualifying session, putting an end to speculation regarding the Spaniard's fitness after he failed to take to the track.

Earlier, the Q1 session set the stage as Johann Zarco and Pecco Bagnaia fought their way through to the pole position shootout. Zarco set the early benchmark with strong pacing, while Bagnaia and a fiercely competitive Luca Marini chased closely for the vital promotion spots.
As Q1 reached its climax, Bagnaia improved his personal best but could not displace Zarco from the top spot. Marini made a late charge on his final flying lap but fell short in the final sector, leaving Zarco and Bagnaia to advance into Q2 and battle for their ultimate grid positions.
