Trackhouse Racing has been dealt a major blow ahead of the 14th round of the 2025 MotoGP season at Misano. Ai Ogura will miss the Red Bull Grand Prix of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera after failing to recover sufficiently from the left thumb injury he sustained during a motocross training crash in Japan following the British Grand Prix.
That incident required surgery and forced him to sit out the Aragon round. The team had hoped that an intensive week of rehabilitation would be enough to get the Japanese rider back on his Aprilia RS-GP for Misano. However, a fresh medical evaluation in Barcelona has ruled him out, as the injury has not healed enough for him to ride safely.
To make matters worse, there is no replacement available. Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori, who stood in for Ogura at Aragon, is not available this weekend. That leaves Trackhouse with just one rider on the grid, Raul Fernandez, who will have to shoulder the team's hopes alone.
Ogura's absence is a significant setback. He has emerged as a consistent frontrunner this season, with a podium at Le Mans, fourth places in Italy and Hungary, and back-to-back runner-up finishes in Brno. His crowning moment came at Assen, where he claimed his first MotoGP victory. Despite missing Aragon, he still holds fifth in the championship standings.
The action at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli kicks off on Friday with Free Practice 1. The Sprint follows on Saturday, with the Grand Prix on Sunday. All eyes will be on Fernandez to see if he can keep Trackhouse competitive in Ogura's absence.
