AGV has officially unveiled the latest generation of its iconic PISTA GP helmet, the R3, which is claimed to be the most significant evolution since the Pista GP platform was first introduced in 2011. Sphera AGV: A Breakthrough in Rotational Force Mitigation
The headline innovation is the Sphera AGV system, developed in collaboration with British research company RLS. This system is specifically designed to reduce the effects of oblique impacts—collisions that are not perpendicular and trigger head rotation. In racing crashes, rotational forces are often the culprit behind serious brain injuries because the skull and brain do not move in sync.
Sphera works with an outer structure connected to the main shell via a matrix of hundreds of microspheres. AGV claims that independent testing shows a six-fold reduction in concussion risk compared to an equivalent configuration without Sphera and its RLS technology.
