Action immediately heated up as the first practice session got underway for the 2026 Malaysian Grand Prix weekend at the Sepang International Circuit. Marc Marquez wasted no time laying down the pace, dominating the opening session and establishing a comfortable cushion at the top aboard his factory Ducati machine.
The Spanish star proved to be in a league of his own for the majority of the morning, finishing comfortably clear with a 0.474s advantage over his closest rivals. Behind him, Marco Bezzecchi and Pedro Acosta put in a stunning display by setting an identical lap time to share the best-of-the-rest honours.
Meanwhile, high drama unfolded in the Aprilia camp as injured title contender Jorge Martin bravely took to the track just days after fracturing his wrist at Phillip Island. The Spaniard managed 12 flying laps on his way to 20th place, finishing roughly 1.8s adrift of the benchmark set by the championship leader.

Martin is scheduled to have his fitness officially reviewed following the conclusion of FP1, though initial signs suggest he intends to push through the pain barrier for the remainder of the weekend. However, teammate Raul Fernandez was forced to withdraw from the session entirely.
Fernandez found the pain from his broken finger too severe to continue riding during the morning running. The session was also briefly interrupted by a red flag to clear debris after Iker Lecuona suffered a minor front-end incident at the end of the back straight.
