WRC, Sportrik Media - The documentary series More Than Machine has earned a nomination for Best Original Content at the 2025 SportsPro Media Awards, adding to its growing list of accolades in motorsport storytelling. Chronicling M-Sport Ford’s 2024 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) campaign, the series has been lauded for its human-centric narrative. This Sportrik Media analysis explores the series’ achievements and the promise of its upcoming second season.

Prestigious Recognition at SportsPro Media Awards

Set to take place on November 18, 2025, at La Quinta de Jarama in Madrid, the SportsPro Media Awards celebrate excellence in global sports content. The Best Original Content category honors outstanding non-live sports content for OTT or digital platforms, with past winners including Amazon’s Take Us Home: Leeds United and the Olympic docuseries All Around.

Launched in August 2024, More Than Machine is a seven-part documentary produced by Superlative Films in collaboration with team sponsor SafetyCulture. The series follows M-Sport Ford through the 2024 WRC season, offering an all-access view of the high-stakes world of rally racing and its human stories.

Praise from the Production Team

Gary Osborne, founder and director of Superlative Films, expressed pride in the nomination. “Being shortlisted for Best Original Content reflects the passion, dedication, and storytelling prowess of our team,” he said. Osborne teased that Season 2 will expand its scope to cover three WRC teams—Toyota, Hyundai, and M-Sport Ford—promising an even more immersive experience.

The series has already garnered international acclaim. Its third episode, Legacy, was nominated for Best Documentary Episode at the 2025 International Motor Film Awards, and it received a ‘Highly Commended’ accolade in the Best Documentary category at The Race Media Awards earlier this year.

Support from M-Sport Ford and SafetyCulture

M-Sport Ford Team Principal Rich Millener praised Superlative Films’ work. “Superlative integrated seamlessly into our team, capturing the passion and emotion that define the M-Sport brand,” he said. He described the experience as remarkable, highlighting the series’ ability to showcase the team’s dedication.

Luke Anear, Executive Chairman of SafetyCulture, emphasized the significance of the dual nominations. “Earning a second nomination in weeks underscores the strength of this series and our commitment to Season 2,” he said. The upcoming season will offer deeper insights into the behind-the-scenes stories of Toyota, Hyundai, and M-Sport Ford.

Season 2: Expanded Scope

Currently in production, Season 2 of More Than Machine will cover all three WRC manufacturer teams—Toyota, Hyundai, and M-Sport Ford—throughout the 2025 WRC season. The series aims to bring fans closer to the unsung heroes of rally racing, diving deeper into the high-pressure dynamics of the sport.

The nomination of More Than Machine for the 2025 SportsPro Media Awards cements its status as a standout motorsport documentary. Its human-focused storytelling and exclusive access to the WRC world have resonated with audiences. With Season 2 set to explore all three top WRC teams, the series is poised to elevate its legacy. Rally fans eagerly await its next chapter.
