Moto Rally, Sportrik Media - Stage 10 of the Dakar Rally 2026 proved to be a decisive turning point, particularly in the RallyGP motorcycle category. On the white sand stages leading to Bisha, the world’s most brutal rally once again underlined its true identity: precise navigation, physical resilience, and flawless decision-making mattered far more than outright speed. In a single day, the championship picture shifted dramatically, a defending champion fell out of contention, and the title fight narrowed to a knife-edge duel.
From the outset, Stage 10 was designed as a high-concentration test. Soft dunes with minimal visual references forced the opening riders to interpret the roadbook with extreme accuracy. In such conditions, time gaps were not created by aggressive throttle inputs, but by minor navigational errors that quickly escalated into losses measured in minutes. Dakar 2026 once again demonstrated that, in its final phase, navigation is the most valuable currency of all.

In this demanding environment, Adrien Van Beveren delivered a near-perfect performance. The Monster Energy Honda HRC rider dominated Stage 10 to claim the seventh Dakar stage victory of his career. Van Beveren finished 4 minutes 04 seconds ahead of Luciano Benavides and 5 minutes 26 seconds clear of Ricky Brabec. Beyond the raw numbers, the result highlighted Van Beveren’s maturity in exploiting terrain that perfectly suits his riding style: clean lines, controlled pace, and minimal correction.
The win also carried powerful symbolic weight. Stage 10 took place on the 40th anniversary of the death of Thierry Sabine, the founder of the Dakar Rally. For French motorsport, Van Beveren’s victory resonated deeply, connecting the spirit of Dakar’s origins with the modern, highly technical reality of the RallyGP era.
However, the defining story of Stage 10 emerged from the downfall of the defending champion. Daniel Sanders crashed at kilometre 138 and suffered a left shoulder injury. Although he was able to continue, his condition was far from optimal. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider ultimately finished more than 25 minutes behind Van Beveren. The consequences were immediate and severe: Sanders dropped out of the overall podium positions and now trails the rally lead by 16 minutes and 41 seconds. With only three stages remaining, his hopes of defending the Dakar title have realistically come to an end.
Sanders’ misfortune served as the harshest reminder of Dakar’s unforgiving nature. A single crash, a single injury, can erase more than a week of disciplined effort. In this rally, survival and continuity often outweigh even the most spectacular stage wins.
With Sanders effectively removed from the title equation, the RallyGP battle has now narrowed to a direct duel between Brabec and Benavides. Provisional standings showed Benavides leading the overall classification by a slender 41 seconds. That position, however, remains far from secure. Brabec stopped on the stage to assist Sanders after the crash, and under Dakar regulations, such actions can be rewarded with time compensation.
Initial estimates suggest Brabec could receive close to one minute in compensation — enough to swing the overall lead back in his favour. As a result, the final classification is pending full verification by Race Direction, including the download and analysis of GPS data from all riders. Until that process is completed, the RallyGP standings remain balanced on a knife edge, with the lead potentially changing by mere seconds.
More broadly, Stage 10 confirmed the trajectory of Dakar 2026’s closing phase. Navigation and risk management are now absolute priorities. The margins separating the main contenders have shrunk to the point where even the smallest mistake — a wrong line choice, a brief lapse in concentration, or a minor technical issue — could prove fatal to championship ambitions. With three stages still to come, psychological pressure is set to intensify dramatically.

Ultimately, Stage 10 was not about sheer speed alone. It was a distilled expression of what Dakar represents: navigation, endurance, and character under extreme pressure. As navigation challenges, injuries, and a razor-thin title duel converge, Dakar 2026 has entered its decisive phase — and as history repeatedly shows, no final answer will emerge until the very last finish line is crossed.
