Formula 1, Sportrik Media – Zhou Guanyu has joined Cadillac F1 Team as a reserve driver for the team’s debut Formula 1 season in 2026, strengthening the American manufacturer’s driver line-up ahead of its first year on the grid.
The 26-year-old spent the 2025 season as a reserve driver for Scuderia Ferrari after completing three full F1 campaigns with Sauber Motorsport under the Alfa Romeo branding from 2022 to 2024. His return to an active race team places him back inside the competitive environment as Cadillac builds its operational foundations.

Zhou will provide race and development support for Cadillac’s lead drivers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez, both of whom return to the Formula 1 grid in 2026 after spending the previous season away from full-time competition. Zhou and Bottas previously worked together at Alfa Romeo, giving Cadillac an experienced partnership capable of accelerating correlation work between simulator, data analysis and on-track feedback.

The Cadillac driver programme also includes Colton Herta, the former IndyCar star currently competing in Formula 2 in pursuit of the FIA super licence points required to race in Formula 1. Herta’s presence underlines Cadillac’s long-term strategy to develop an internal talent pipeline alongside its experienced F1 recruits.
Zhou is managed by Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon, who highlighted the importance of recent F1 race experience for a new team entering under fresh technical regulations. Lowdon stressed that Zhou’s ability to work within a development-focused environment makes him a valuable asset as Cadillac prepares for the demands of its first campaign.
For its initial seasons, Cadillac will run Ferrari power units before switching to an in-house engine programme developed at its Charlotte, North Carolina facility. Backed by General Motors, the project aims to become a full works manufacturer by 2029, making Zhou’s recruitment part of a broader long-term technical and sporting strategy.
With Zhou added to its roster, Cadillac continues to assemble a blend of experience, youth and technical continuity as it prepares for one of the most closely watched team debuts in modern Formula 1, a story being followed in detail by Sportrik Media at https://sportrik.com.
