Japanese manufacturer Yamaha has officially announced its decision to skip the upcoming MotoGP Qatar Grand Prix at the Lusail International Circuit. The sudden withdrawal stems from strict corporate travel restrictions maintained by the company's headquarters amid ongoing security uncertainties in the Middle East region.
This major development comes at a particularly sensitive juncture for the championship paddock, where several riders and personnel had already voiced private and public concerns regarding the safety logistics of traveling to the venue. Despite reassurances and safety measures introduced by event organizers, the executive board concluded that available risk assessments do not yet justify lifting internal safety protocols.
In an official statement released by the factory team, management clarified the exact reasoning behind the unexpected absence. "Following our most recent assessment of the situation in the Middle East, we have found insufficient grounds to adapt our current company-wide travel restrictions. Therefore, we have informed the MotoGP Group of our decision not to participate in the 2026 Qatar Grand Prix," read the official memo.

The manufacturer further emphasized that the choice was made independently from any external pressure or regulatory adjustments by series promoters. "This decision is based on our own assessment of currently available information and is independent of the measures taken by the MotoGP Group and the event organizer." Such a stance places immense pressure on the governing body as paddock anxiety reaches a boiling point.
Despite skipping the Middle Eastern round, team representatives were quick to reassure fans and stakeholders that the long-term racing project remains fully intact. The factory squad plans to resume normal competitive duties as soon as the series heads back to European soil. "Yamaha remains fully committed to MotoGP and looks forward to participating in the competition again at the Portuguese Grand Prix," the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, series organizers have maintained an unwavering stance, insisting that the race weekend will proceed as planned despite the high-profile absence. With the opening practice sessions rapidly approaching, the paddock now watches closely to see if other teams will follow suit.
