National motorcycle racing in Germany is preparing to enter an exciting new era with the launch of the Yamaha R9 GYTR Cup Deutschland starting in the 2027 season. This brand-new one-make trophy serves as the successor to the Yamalube Yamaha R7 Cup, stepping up to a more powerful platform equipped with advanced racing components straight from the factory.
At the heart of this new championship is an 890 cc CP3 three-cylinder engine designed to deliver exceptional performance on the track. The immense potential of this machine has already been demonstrated in competitive action, where standout rider Dirk Geiger clinched the Euro Moto Supersport championship title, cementing the bike's exceptional competitiveness ahead of its national debut.
The 2027 calendar is structured around five to six race weekends held alongside the International Bike Promotion Meisterschaft. Organizers are heavily prioritizing extensive track time, ensuring participants receive ample opportunity to understand their machinery, refine machine setups, and continuously improve their personal lap times throughout the season.
Provisional circuits slated for the inaugural season include Hockenheimring, Schleizer Dreieck, Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, and Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic. Additional iconic venues such as Automotodrom Brunn, TT Circuit Assen, and the Nurburgring are also under consideration to finalize the championship schedule.
Wim Vermeulen, Division Manager After Sales at Yamaha Motor Europe’s German branch, highlighted the core vision behind the new series. "The Yamaha R9 has already proven its potential, and with this new cup, we want to offer ambitious riders an attractive platform for direct competition," he stated.
