Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff has revealed how his son Jack's early steps into racing are helping the Austrian become "more stable emotionally." In an exclusive interview with RacingNews365, Wolff opened up about the challenges and joys of watching his nine-year-old begin his own motorsport journey.
Jack Wolff recently claimed his first karting win, taking overall victory in the X30 U10 category of the IAME Series in Italy. The young driver is following in the footsteps of both his father and his mother, Susie Wolff, a former racing driver.
Wolff admitted that watching his son race is a nerve-wracking experience. "When he's racing, it's not something that I love. But I can't change it," he said. Despite that, he tries to keep his emotions in check, knowing that Jack is still very young and in his first season.

"I really try to compartmentalise that because he is nine, it is his first racing season, and he is doing better than my expectations were," Wolff explained. "He likes it, but he might not like it next year anymore, or in two years, or he might struggle when he gets into juniors."
Wolff also believes that racing is a valuable life lesson for Jack, keeping him grounded. "He needs to go out on a car track and put his elbows out to win; it is good," he stated. "I have an understanding of what the driver needs to do, but as a dad, I'm much more irrational and too emotional."
Interestingly, Wolff revealed that this experience is also helping him grow as a person. "It is also good for me to learn how to be stable emotionally; I'm always someone who has gotten too emotional at times, too angry and too quickly," he concluded. Thus, racing is not only shaping Jack's future but also reshaping his father's perspective outside the garage.
