A surprising drama unfolded in the hours leading up to the Japanese Grand Prix when Marc Marquez deliberately refused to participate in a special go-kart exhibition featuring the full grid of MotoGP riders. Instead of stepping into the kart, the Spanish superstar chose to sit out the promotional event entirely, even going so far as to secretly use a body double to fill his assigned slot on the track, a move that quickly drew an official reprimand from series organizers.

The lighthearted exhibition was designed to entertain fans ahead of the grand prix, but Marc Marquez had zero interest in taking part in activities that he considered an unnecessary distraction. Following the warm-up session, he needed to apply ice to his right arm, and when someone suggested sending out a doppelganger to fool the paddock, the plan was immediately put into motion to protect his physical condition for the actual race.

"There is a bit of a line. Obviously I understand the show, but we are fighting for the championship, we’re not here to mess around or go around in kart races," Marc Marquez explained after successfully winning the grand prix. Although he admitted that he was ultimately told off by MotoGP management for skipping the mandatory appearance, he stood firm on his stance that riders must sometimes act selfishly to ensure peak performance when it truly matters.

The presence of the fake driver did not fool his championship rival Jorge Martin, who immediately recognized that the person behind the wheel of the kart was an impostor. The Pramac rider admitted that he shared similar reservations about the exhibition event when it was first announced to the riders ahead of the busy race weekend.

"I spotted it quickly, I knew it wasn’t Marc. But well, I also understand it. When they told us about the event, I wasn’t entirely convinced either," said Jorge Martin, who later engaged in a fierce battle at the front alongside Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi before Marc Marquez ultimately clinched a crucial victory to narrow the title gap.
