Elia Weiss further cemented his dominance in the F4 CEZ championship with two victories at the Brno Circuit in the Czech Republic last weekend. The Jenzer Motorsport driver now has eight wins from 15 races, double that of his nearest rival, and extends his championship lead ahead of the final round in Hungary.
However, Weiss did not have it all his own way. His teammate, Georgiy Zasov, held him off to claim his maiden F4 victory in the third heat, while Teo Borenstein completed a clean sweep for the Swiss team with a win in heat two, followed by fellow Jenzer driver Max Karhan in second.
Friday's wet qualifying posed a challenge, with Zasov mastering the conditions to take pole for heats one and three. The tricky track caught out several competitors, including Cram Motorsport's Simon Rechenmacher, who started 20th, and McLaren junior Ella Hakkinen in 26th.
In heat one, Weiss took the lead on the opening lap after both Zasov and Borenstein ran wide at Turn 3. Karhan jumped to second, followed by Mathilde Paatz. Zasov had to settle for fourth after contact with Borenstein, which dropped the Czech driver to 18th. Rechenmacher made an impressive charge through the field, passing Zasov and snatching the final podium spot from Paatz two laps from home.
Heat two belonged to Borenstein, who held off Karhan, while Weiss was absent. Rechenmacher once again showed his pace, finishing fifth. In heat three, Zasov made good use of his pole position, keeping Weiss at bay. The German stayed glued to his Swiss teammate's tail but could not find a way through, finishing 0.310s behind.
The final race was drama-filled before the start as all four Maffi Racing cars pitted at the end of the formation lap. When the race got underway, polesitter Weiss held off Karhan into Turn 1 as Zasov fell back to eighth. Borenstein slipped past Karhan for second but was unable to challenge Weiss out front. A huge crash involving Mio Olert and Piotr Orcholski neutralized the race. After a restart with 10 minutes remaining, Weiss made no mistakes and held position until a late rain shower prompted the safety car once more, with the race finishing under yellows.
With these results, Weiss leads the standings with 299 points, followed by Borenstein (257), Karhan (240), and David Walther (237). The title fight remains open, but Weiss's consistency throughout the season brings him ever closer to the crown. The final round in Hungary will be decisive, and all eyes will be on whether Weiss can maintain his dominant form or if his rivals can rise to the occasion.
