Swedish manufacturer Volvo is further accelerating its electrification strategy by announcing plans to launch a second battery-electric vehicle in Europe by 2027. Following the debut of the EX60 SUV, this upcoming model will be built upon the advanced SPA3 platform, with customer deliveries scheduled to commence following the summer period.
The upcoming zero-emission model is strategically positioned in a more accessible market segment compared to its larger sibling, aiming to capture a broader audience and drive substantial sales volume across the continent. This vehicle forms an integral part of the manufacturer's comprehensive overhaul plan, which targets the introduction of 13 new global models leading up to 2030.
Engineered primarily to cater to European preferences, the vehicle development runs parallel to other global projects, supported by the Geely corporate architecture for different international markets. Although detailed technical specifications remain under wraps, market positioning heavily points toward a compact C-segment footprint, currently standing as the most popular vehicle category in Europe.

Amidst these upcoming product rollouts, the industrial ramp-up for the EX60 has encountered notable bottlenecks due to high technological complexity. While global pre-orders have successfully crossed the 50,000 unit threshold, manufacturing output has faced delays with only 5,000 units completed since production lines kicked off back in April.
The implementation of the SPA3 platform serves as a cornerstone to streamline future manufacturing processes and overcome current industrial hurdles. According to FormulaPassion, the brand's future European lineup may also reintroduce low-slung body styles such as sedans and estates, ensuring diverse options as market demands continue to evolve.
