Maverick Vinales is finally back in the MotoGP paddock at the Japanese Grand Prix after missing four rounds due to a shoulder injury. For Tech3 KTM and the fans, his presence at Motegi is a long-awaited moment.
Since his last appearance in Germany in mid-July, Vinales has undergone extensive rehabilitation. Now, he admits he has no lofty goals. "I have no expectations. My target is to finish the race," he said. His focus is on gauging his physical condition after a long layoff.
Although not fully recovered, Vinales is eager to try the bike, which he says is working well. He is curious about his own capabilities on the KTM RC16. "It's been a long time since I rode the bike. I did a little test and actually felt good, but it was just a few laps," he added.

Amid uncertainty over his future, Vinales insists he hasn't closed the door on MotoGP. His contract with KTM was not renewed, and his seat was taken by Luca Marini and Senna Agius. "I am not done yet here. I have many objectives to achieve. There is no more space on the 2027 grid, but you never know," he stressed.
Interestingly, Vinales actually enjoyed his time at home. "I felt so good. No travel, with my family, training a lot. The only thing I missed was the bike," he admitted. He even rode a Yamaha R1 on a racetrack, which reignited his racing spirit.
KTM allowed him to test the 850cc bike, an experience that might be part of preparation or simply keeping in touch with the track. It shows the relationship remains intact despite tension over the no-compete clause.
Vinales' return at Motegi is not just about results, but about proving he still belongs in MotoGP. With determination and experience, he is ready to face the challenges of a physically demanding circuit.
