Big news from the Moto2 paddock: Celestino Vietti has officially signed with Aspar Team for the 2027 season. The 24-year-old from Piedmont will partner Maximo Quiles, replacing the outgoing duo of Daniel Holgado and David Alonso as they step up to MotoGP.
This decision ends months of speculation about Vietti's future. With eight wins and 17 podiums in Moto2, he brings a wealth of experience to the Spanish squad that is rebuilding its strength. Interestingly, Vietti will also return to a Kalex bike after two seasons with Boscoscuro—a change that could be a key factor in the title fight.
“I am very happy,” Vietti said in an official statement. “Joining a highly competitive team, as they have shown over the years, is a great opportunity. I want to thank Jorge Martinez ‘Aspar’ and the whole team for the warm welcome. Next year I will change both team and bike: it will be a fantastic challenge and I will give my all to fight for the championship.”
Aspar team manager, Jorge Martinez, could not hide his enthusiasm. “With the arrival of Celestino, we complete a truly competitive team for the 2027 Moto2 season. With Alonso and Holgado, we have been constantly fighting for top positions, and that is exactly what we wanted to replicate next season: that's why we went for him. We are once again relying on a VR46 Riders Academy rider, after the experiences of Bagnaia and Migno, as well as Bezzecchi and Marini in what is now MotoJunior. We hope to provide Vietti with all the tools needed to fight together for the Moto2 world title.”
This move also reinforces the close ties between Aspar and the VR46 Academy. Vietti, who is the only Italian rider to have completed all GPs this season alongside Tony Arbolino, will certainly hope his experience can help Aspar return to the top of the standings. The question now is: can he adapt quickly to the Kalex and challenge at the front immediately?
With this new line-up, the 2027 Moto2 competition is set to be even more intense. Quiles, still young and full of potential, will learn a lot from the more mature Vietti. Meanwhile, Aspar clearly does not want to be a mere participant—they aim to win the title.
