Max Verstappen set the pace in the final practice session for the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2026, edging out George Russell. The Red Bull driver clocked a 1:43.922, using a strong tow to his advantage.
Russell continued his impressive form from Friday, finishing second just 0.099 seconds adrift in his Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton completed the top three, with his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc in fifth.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli slotted into fourth, splitting the Ferraris, while Pierre Gasly was sixth for Alpine. McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris had to settle for seventh and eighth respectively.
This result sets the stage for an intense qualifying session later today. Verstappen looks strong, but Russell's consistency suggests Mercedes could challenge for pole. The tight and twisty Baku City Circuit often produces surprises, and with the field so close, every tenth will count.
Further down the order, Carlos Sainz (Williams) and Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) struggled, ending up 11th and 20th. Valtteri Bottas, returning with Cadillac, was 22nd, highlighting the learning curve for the new team.
With FP3 in the books, all eyes now turn to qualifying, where Verstappen will aim to assert his dominance, while Mercedes and Ferrari plot their counterattack.
