The Formula 1 paddock was sent into a frenzy during practice at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez following a fiery on-track clash between Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson. The intense duel immediately caught the attention of the race stewards, who swiftly summoned both drivers to review the aggressive maneuvering on track.
The uncompromising battle left carbon fiber debris scattered across the asphalt after front wing fragments broke off, forcing officials to deploy a red flag to clear the racing line. Both machines suffered visible damage, with the reigning champion's car sustaining a blow to the left sidepod air intake element while tensions boiled over.
Following a thorough investigation and hearing testimonies from both drivers, the stewards handed down strict penalties. The Dutchman was handed a one-place grid drop for the Mexico City Grand Prix, compounding a difficult weekend where the New Zealander also suffered a disqualification from ninth on the grid due to a technical infringement regarding the energy recovery system.

Addressing the media after the session, the star driver for Red Bull Racing did not hold back his frustration regarding the incident. "To Liam Lawson, I can only say this: look, you are fighting for your place in Formula 1, so do not pick a fight with me," he stated bluntly, expressing profound disappointment after previously offering plenty of backstage support.
He emphasized that unwritten paddock rules dictate respect toward the senior squad, adding firmly, "When I put my helmet on, I try to make the absolute best of it, and I will not let anyone push me off the track."
