Andrea Kimi Antonelli faces a unique restriction if he clinches the Formula 1 world championship at this weekend's United States Grand Prix. The championship leader arrives in Texas holding a commanding 102-point advantage over his Mercedes team-mate George Russell, alongside a 111-point gap to Ferrari veteran Lewis Hamilton. This creates a historic opportunity for the 20-year-old to become the youngest world champion in the sport's rich history.
To seal the drivers' crown in Texas, the Italian sensation needs to extend his championship lead by at least 23 points during the race weekend. This objective will be officially achieved if he takes the chequered flag in first place on Sunday while his closest challenger fails to finish inside the top eight and his nearest rival from Maranello misses out on the top four. The mathematical equation adds immense tension to the paddock as race day approaches.
However, traditional podium celebrations involving celebratory champagne will be altered should he finish in the top three or secure the ultimate prize at the Circuit of the Americas. Strict federal drinking laws in the United States mandate a minimum legal age of 21 for alcohol consumption. Because the rising star remains below the legal age requirement, Formula 1 authorities are obligated to provide a non-alcoholic substitute for the podium ceremony.

Rather than popping the usual Moet & Chandon bottles typically seen during victory lane celebrations, organisers will supply a safe, alcohol-free alternative. Drawing parallels to events held in Middle Eastern venues such as Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi where strict local laws prohibit alcohol, drivers are given specialized beverages like sparkling rose water.
The restriction is not entirely unfamiliar to the talented youngster, who previously received an unbranded bottle containing a non-alcoholic beverage during his podium appearance at the Miami Grand Prix earlier this season. Furthermore, the regulation dictates he will remain barred from consuming champagne during podium ceremonies at the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix in November and the Miami Grand Prix next season, as the event falls prior to his 21st birthday on August 25.
