The battle for the MotoGP 2026 world championship has entered a thrilling final phase after Marc Marquez missed out on wrapping up his crown under the floodlights of Lusail. Although the reigning champion could not secure his title celebrations in Qatar, his commanding lead at the top of the standings remains intact heading into the final two rounds of the season.
A stunning grand prix victory by Marco Bezzecchi completely reshaped the mathematical permutations at the summit of the championship table. Bezzecchi's maximum haul not only keeps him in a very slim mathematical contention for the ultimate prize, but it also opens up a realistic opportunity for the Italian rider to snatch second place overall from Jorge Martin.
At the top of the leaderboard, Marc Marquez still commands a formidable 60-point advantage with a total of 431 points. Jorge Martin sits in second place with 371 points, while Marco Bezzecchi occupies third position with 357 points, trailing the leader by 74 markers with exactly the same number of points still left on the table.

Mathematically speaking, only the top three riders in the standings retain a theoretical chance of capturing the championship crown. Marquez will now get his next championship point opportunity during the upcoming Saturday Sprint at Portimao, where a victory would officially seal a historic tenth world title for the Ducati star.
Further down the order, intense battles continue to unfold across the grid as riders like Pedro Acosta and Francesco Bagnaia push to maximize their final results of the year. Paddock tension is reaching fever pitch as the 2026 season heads toward its dramatic conclusion.
