Ugo Ugochukwu has been officially crowned the 2026 Formula 3 champion after a dramatic season finale in Madrid. The 19-year-old not only overtook his main rival, Freddie Slater, in the standings but also secured Campos their second consecutive teams' title. For Trident, it was a double blow: losing both the drivers' and teams' crowns in a single weekend.
The final race in Madrid set the stage. Slater arrived as the strongest candidate, especially after the Monza incident that resulted in a double penalty for Ugochukwu. But fate had other plans. Slater suffered technical issues on his car from qualifying, opening the door for Ugochukwu to fight back. He seized the opportunity, driving impressively, closing the gap, and making the decisive move in the final Feature Race. As a result, he sealed the title with a 14-point margin over Slater.
The final standings show Ugochukwu's dominance with 159 points, followed by Slater (145) and MP Motorsport's Tuukka Taponen with 109 points. ART Grand Prix's Taito Kato completed the top four with 105 points. Meanwhile, fifth place went to Theophile Nael, Ugochukwu's Campos teammate, who collected 88 points, underlining Campos's strength this season.

In the teams' championship, Campos successfully secured their second consecutive title. Trident had to settle for runner-up, a bitter result given they also lost the drivers' title. Campos's achievement was built on the consistency of their driver duo, Ugochukwu and Nael, who delivered solid performances throughout the season.
For Slater, this season was a valuable lesson. He led the standings at times but technical issues at crucial moments dashed his ambitions. Nevertheless, his performances caught the eye. Meanwhile, Ugochukwu, adding another title to his collection, proved that calmness and sharpness in critical moments are key to success.
With this result, the balance of power in Formula 3 for 2026 is final. Campos celebrate a double success, while Trident must regroup. Names like Taponen, Kato, and Badoer have also shown potential to shine in the coming seasons. We look forward to their on-track battles next year.
