Ugo Ugochukwu sealed the 2026 Formula 3 championship with a second-place finish in the Feature Race 2 at Madrid on Sunday. The American driver secured the title by beating his closest rival, Freddie Slater, who could only manage eighth.
The race unfolded perfectly for Campos Racing. Starting from second, Ugochukwu stayed close to leader Tuukka Taponen. Meanwhile, Slater, who started eighth, dropped to ninth early on. Despite setting the fastest lap and overtaking Yevan David at Turn 1 on lap 5, Slater couldn't close the gap to the leaders.
Ahead, Taponen drove impressively. The MP Motorsport driver held his position solidly and claimed his first F3 victory. Ugochukwu, needing only to finish ahead of Slater, played it safe, managing the gap and avoiding unnecessary risks. The top five remained unchanged until the chequered flag.

Taponen's win was a sweet ending for MP Motorsport, which placed three cars in the top six. Pedro Clerot (Rodin) completed the podium in third, followed by Taito Kato (ART Grand Prix) and Mattia Colnaghi (MP Motorsport). Slater had to settle for eighth, 4.7 seconds behind Taponen.
With this result, Ugochukwu ends the season as champion, capping off a successful year for Campos Racing, which had already secured the teams' title. Slater had to accept the runner-up spot after a season-long battle.
This race also marked the end of a long and gruelling Formula 3 season. Ugochukwu now prepares for the next step, while his rivals will regroup for next year.
