The first half of the 2026 FIA WEC 6 Hours of Barcelona was marked by dramatic weather conditions and intense early-race incidents on the damp track. The two Toyota Hypercars, #8 and #7, immediately asserted dominance by setting an uncatchable pace right from the green light under the cloudy skies of Catalunya.
Tricky track conditions caught out several drivers early on, leading to immediate chaos. Alpine #35 spun following contact with Cadillac #12, while pole-sitter Genesis #19 and Lexus #78 also found themselves stranded in the gravel trap, prompting the deployment of an initial Virtual Safety Car followed by the full Safety Car.
Entering the third hour of the race, Ferrari kept their victory hopes alive solely through car #50 holding onto third position. However, the gap to the race leader had stretched to roughly 30 seconds, while sister car #83 continued to fight hard inside the leading group to salvage crucial championship points.

Tyre strategy played a pivotal role as the circuit gradually dried out, forcing teams to transition from wet weather compounds to slicks. The top two positions remained firmly locked out by the leading Japanese manufacturer, leaving the Maranello squad with a massive mountain to climb during the second half of the endurance classic.
