Formula 1 weekend in Bahrain promised a sweet start for Mercedes following a wave of fresh upgrades arriving in the garage. High expectations filled the air, especially after Kimi Antonelli topped the timesheets during the final practice session ahead of the grid showdown.
However, those high hopes vanished as the crucial Q3 phase unfolded under the floodlights. Antonelli could only manage fourth, while his teammate George Russell slipped down to eighth on the starting grid after struggling to tame his machinery.
Team Principal Toto Wolff made no secret of his total bewilderment when speaking to the press after the session. He admitted that the sudden loss of competitive pace caught the entire squad off guard, highlighting unexpected straight-line drag and severe front-end understeer.

"Very difficult to understand," Wolff told reporters regarding the baffling deficit. The Silver Arrows suddenly found themselves bleeding massive time down the straights, completely missing the peak performance levels they witnessed earlier in the day.
As reported by Crash.net, Wolff dismissed theories that rival outfits were sandbagging during morning practice. He insisted the setback is an internal car issue, forcing engineers to comb through massive telemetry data to find answers before race lights go out.
