A challenging weekend unfolded for Toprak Razgatlioglu at the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi, where the triple World Superbike champion admitted he was fighting on the bike to slow down his YZR-M1, describing the issue as very strange.
Throughout the stop-and-go weekend, the Turkish rider struggled to adapt his braking style to the Michelin MotoGP tyres. Starting from the back of the grid, Toprak Razgatlioglu finished 17th in the grand prix, while fellow Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo managed to salvage 12th place.
The core problem for Toprak Razgatlioglu stemmed from the rear tyre pushing the front under heavy braking, making lap-to-lap consistency extremely difficult and forcing him to ride constantly on the absolute limit.

"In the race, you know, I have again the same problem," Toprak Razgatlioglu told reporters on Sunday in Japan. "This tyre also, you know, is pushing a lot on the brake. But after six laps later, I take my rhythm, and also I do the pace much better, especially after six laps I see the 1m44s. But not enough for the result, because I'm also riding the limit."
Telemetry data revealed that other Yamaha riders could brake later yet stop much more efficiently. Razgatlioglu noted that his bike simply refused to stop properly in the braking zone, causing frequent front tyre locking and robbing him of confidence.
"I’m fighting on the bike. And this one is very difficult to keep every lap the same pace," he added, while acknowledging that Fabio Quartararo extracts more performance due to his extensive experience with the machine.
