Max Verstappen is set to enter a new operational chapter in Formula 1 as Red Bull officially confirms a crucial engineering transition ahead of the 2026 season's climax. The formidable, high-pressure working relationship between the four-time world champion and race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase is drawing to a close, with Lambiase heading to McLaren in the near future.
To ensure a smooth handover, Red Bull is phasing out Lambiase over the final rounds of the current campaign. Tom Hart will step into the role to engineer Verstappen starting next weekend at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, taking charge of the #1 RBPT machine for the upcoming races in America, Brazil, and Las Vegas.
Despite handing over immediate trackside engineering duties for those specific rounds, Lambiase is still expected to oversee Verstappen's garage operations in Mexico, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, formal discussions remain ongoing between Red Bull and the Woking squad regarding the exact date when Lambiase can officially begin his tenure with his new employers.

Interestingly, Hart was initially on the verge of joining Williams to work alongside Alex Albon. However, reports indicate he was ultimately swayed to remain within the Red Bull family after Verstappen explicitly expressed a preference to have him as his next race engineer.
Looking back at recent events, the emotional podium celebrations at the Singapore Grand Prix may have served as a subtle hint toward this impending lineup change. When Verstappen secured victory at Marina Bay, Red Bull sent Lambiase to collect the constructor's trophy, a surprising gesture that now appears deeply symbolic of the transition.
Reflecting on that moment in the post-race press conference, Verstappen admitted he was caught off guard by the team's decision. "I didn’t expect that. I remember him saying to me in Vegas last year, 'This might be the last time I stand on the podium'. I said, 'Don’t be silly, we’re going to win together many more times'. But I think I jinxed him with that," Verstappen remarked.
