The Bend Motorsport Park continues to prove itself as a cornerstone of Australian grassroots motorsport. The Bend Championship Series, formerly known as the South Australian Motor Racing Championship, consistently attracts over 100 competitors each round. That number is more than just a statistic—it reflects the pulse of a racing community that remains vibrant amidst national turmoil.
The series, held at The Bend and Mallala Motorsport Park, offers a mix of national and state-based categories, from AU4, National Sports Sedans, Circuit Excel, Formula Vee, to Improved Production. This variety is a major draw, providing a platform for diverse talents and machinery to shine.
While many other series in Australia are struggling—whether due to the sale dispute between AASA and the Benalla Auto Club, or the collapse of the AASA Race Series—The Bend stands as an oasis. They have deliberately crafted a format that is friendly to amateur racers: ample track time, efficient event flow, and of course, world-class facilities. All of this is designed to respect competitors' commitments off the track.

Full Support for Competitors
The Bend's director, Sam Shahin, emphasized that this success is no accident. "There is plenty of discussion nationally about the challenges facing grassroots and national-level circuit racing, but here in South Australia we are seeing something incredibly positive," he said. "When more than 100 competitors are consistently choosing to race at a state-level meeting, that tells us there is still enormous passion and appetite for motorsport."
Shahin added that the key is making racing as accessible and enjoyable as possible. "Give people quality track time, great facilities, strong competition and a professionally delivered event, and they will race. This isn’t just a win for The Bend. It is a huge win for South Australian motorsport and something our state should be extremely proud of," he stressed.
All races in The Bend Championship Series are broadcast live on Kayo Sports, and spectator entry is free. This move clearly aims to bring motorsport closer to the public. Round five takes place at The Bend on August 22-23, and is set to be busy once again.
