Following the performance sports decree issued by the SED Politburo, no further Grands Prix were permitted to be held at the iconic Talkessel circuit after its successful World Championship debut in 1972. Despite these severe restrictions, the club pressed on at full throttle, continuing to organize two races every single year. With world championship rounds off the table, the organizers shifted their focus to high-profile events such as the Friendship Cup and the Kalikumpel Cup, drawing elite riders from countries like Czechoslovakia, the Soviet Union, and Hungary.
German riders who were barred from competing in world championship events during the 1970s now had the unique opportunity to measure themselves against established world championship contenders like Miroslav Halm and Josef Chara, who were still active on the global stage. This ensured that the competitive level at Teutschenthal remained fiercely intense, preserving the international flavor of the races.
The Talkessel venue witnessed phenomenal local dominance, most notably by Helmut Schadenberg, who captured four major victories across the decade. After taking his maiden win in 1970, the Magdeburg native triumphed again in 1972, 1978, and 1979. Meanwhile, legend Paul Friedrichs delivered his emotional farewell performance during the 1972 autumn race, fittingly taking victory in the premier 500cc master class.

Despite the official ban on world championship status, the spirit of elite racing never faded. Every year, 20,000 to 30,000 passionate fans flocked to the natural amphitheater, unfazed by the thick clouds of dust kicked up by the aggressive knobby tires. Protagonists like Heinz Hoppe and Helmut Schuhmann thrilled the massive crowds, proving that world-class athletic feats were still being achieved right in the heart of East Germany.
The venue continued to innovate when sidecar racing made its debut appearance in 1977, instantly transforming into a massive crowd-pleasing spectacle. Brothers Eberhard and Walter Dietrich claimed victory in this inaugural sidecar event, cementing a remarkable era where the motorsport club staged 19 major races in just 13 years despite immense political hurdles.
