The race weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez has presented a stern test for Kimi Antonelli. Amidst his intense pursuit of the Formula 1 world championship crown, the Italian prodigy has had to battle both a lingering fever and the immense psychological pressure radiating throughout the paddock.
Qualifying for the Mexico City Grand Prix placed the young charger in fourth on the starting grid. Although he showed immense promise by going nearly toe-to-toe with his rivals during final practice, he struggled to extract consistent grip from his fresh rubber during the high-stakes Q3 shootout, ultimately finishing behind Mercedes teammate George Russell.
The constant external chatter regarding his impending world title has clearly weighed heavily on his shoulders. "I feel very tired - I still haven't recovered completely and it hasn't been an easy weekend, to be fair," Antonelli explained following the closely contested qualifying session.

"I've definitely been a bit more tense than usual, especially when you keep hearing, wherever you go, any time of the day, the same thing. And people telling me that it's already done, and knowing myself, I've been trying to block as much as possible this noise." Managing these expectations has required immense mental fortitude from the rookie.
Compounding his struggles were physical setbacks earlier in the week, featuring high fevers and stomach issues that disrupted his media duties on Thursday. While his energy levels remain compromised due to a lack of quality sleep, he remains determined to maximize his machinery on race day.
Looking ahead to Sunday's 71-lap Grand Prix, Antonelli acknowledges that matching the race pace of Scuderia Ferrari—bolstered by Lewis Hamilton on pole—will be an uphill battle. Nevertheless, a saved set of fresh tires and a clean getaway through the treacherous Turn 1 bottleneck remain his primary tactical weapons to push forward.
"It's a long run into Turn 1, so it's going to be important to get off the line well, and hopefully we can gain a couple of places," he added. "Of course, we'll have to stay out of trouble as well, because Turn 1 is always very tricky, but I think if we get through cleanly, we have a strong chance."
