Ducati's factory team is facing a growing concern. It's not the Desmosedici GP losing its edge, but rather one of their star riders, Francesco Bagnaia, struggling to be competitive at Aragon. Team Manager Davide Tardozzi has spoken out about the confidence crisis affecting Pecco.
High expectations were placed on the three-time world champion. Yet, on the Motorland Aragon circuit, Bagnaia looked anonymous. This track should be one of his favorites; he took his first MotoGP victory here in 2021. But now, instead of being a title contender, he's finding it hard to match rivals Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi.
“We expected Bagnaia to be at least top-five here, but that's not the case,” Tardozzi told TNT Sports. “We tried something in the warm-up that didn't work. He lacks confidence, he's not pushing, and we can't find a way to overcome this problem.”
Furthermore, Tardozzi pointed out that Bagnaia's issue isn't pure speed but rather a psychological hurdle. “I think it's a mental problem. His approach sometimes limits his performance. We have no doubt he's a fast rider, but right now he has to cross that fine line between having confidence and closing his eyes and going for it,” he emphasized.
The pressure in the Ducati garage is mounting. With Martin consistently upfront and Bezzecchi maturing, Bagnaia seems to be losing his footing. He remains a strong title contender, but if his confidence doesn't return soon, his chances of defending the crown could slip away.
This situation is a reminder that at the highest level of motorcycle racing, mental strength is as crucial as technical skill. Bagnaia is known for being calm and analytical, but that calmness can sometimes turn into doubt when things don't go as planned.
Ducati now has to work extra to restore Bagnaia's form. The season is still long, and opportunities to bounce back remain open. However, time is ticking, and every missed race could be decisive in the championship fight.
