While crews unpacked at the circuit, Supercars technical chiefs and selected team reps are undertaking barometric pressure testing on engines in Brisbane. It is the second straight year that there have been last-minute efforts to assess the impact of Mount Panorama’s air density on engines before the Great Race.
Twelve months ago an interim report was handed down on the eve of the event, declaring the double-overhead cam Ford was at a disadvantage to the Chevrolet. However, only the inlet side of the testing had been completed, and Chevrolet teams declined to sign off on proposed changes to the Coyote V8.
This time around Supercars has upgraded its dyno to undertake the exhaust side of the testing. Crucially, changes to the Teams Racing Charter mean that Supercars can enact changes without seeking team approval.

Any change to even out the engines would likely come via camshaft timing tweaks to the Ford and Toyota. There is frustration within the paddock that the testing is again being undertaken on the eve of the event.
Supercars’ engine shop has been busy turning around engines that teams require for Bathurst, with some currently without their allocation of spares. The ongoing testing remains the missing piece of the parity puzzle following recent sign-off on centre of gravity changes.
