The Australian touring car landscape is preparing for a major shake-up as Supercars management reveals ambitious plans to expand its endurance racing calendar. Acting CEO Barclay Nettlefold has confirmed to Speedcafe the strict intention to add another co-driver event to join forces with The Bend 500 and Bathurst 1000 in the near future.
Such a move would add significant gravitas back to the Enduro Cup, which famously ran with three events from 2013 through 2019. The highly regarded endurance trophy was initially canned amid the global COVID-19 pandemic before making a welcome return last year as part of a calendar overhaul that also introduced a brand-new Sprint Cup and Finals Series.
“We realise the enduros are important and we’d ideally love to do more kilometres and have an extra enduro on the calendar,” Barclay Nettlefold told Speedcafe. “We haven’t finalised it exactly, but we’d like to have an enlarged enduro calendar for next year and beyond.”

It remains currently unclear exactly where the third endurance showdown will be hosted, although paddock insiders heavily tip an August timeslot as the most likely landing spot. That scheduling adjustment would inevitably require an earlier finish to the Sprint Cup, which currently accounts for a commanding nine out of the championship's total 14 rounds.
A natural host for an extra 500km endurance battle would appear to be Sandown, which is widely rumored to lose its current Finals Series slot over to Phillip Island. Of course, Supercars' grand plans remain entirely dependent on ongoing negotiations regarding the critical Teams Racing Charter that will ultimately dictate the official size of the upcoming calendars.
