Talented young rider Fermin Aldeguer faces a race against time to prove his fitness following a high-profile crash during the Indonesian Grand Prix weekend. The unfortunate incident in Sunday's main race resulted in a fractured right hand, necessitating immediate surgical intervention in Barcelona this week.
The weekend at Mandalika had initially shown strong flashes of speed when the 21-year-old placed his competitive machine on the second row with a sixth-place finish in qualifying. However, multiple crashes culminated in a heavy fall at turn 16 during the opening laps of Sunday's Grand Prix, prematurely ending his promising charge.
Medical examinations later confirmed a fracture at the base of the first metacarpal bone in his right hand. Specialists in Barcelona successfully performed a corrective surgery, inserting screws to stabilize the bone structure and accelerate the rehabilitation process for the recovering Spaniard.
This latest setback adds to an already challenging campaign for the Gresini Racing representative during his sophomore season in the premier class. Earlier in the year, he had already endured lengthy spells on the sidelines due to severe training injuries and a vertebral fracture that forced him to miss crucial rounds.
Attention now shifts entirely to his recovery timeline as the paddock prepares for the upcoming trip to Phillip Island. Whether he receives the green light from the medical panel to compete in the final races at the iconic Australian venue remains one of the most critical questions of the current championship.
