The 2026 Women's Circuit Racing World Championship (WorldWCR) season finale at the Circuito de Jerez delivered a masterclass in racecraft as Chloe Jones executed a brilliant maneuver to defeat two-time world champion Maria Herrera on the final lap.
The 22-year-old rider from Northampton entered the year with high expectations following a strong previous campaign and a high-profile switch to the Crescent-managed Yamaha structure. However, a difficult opening round at Portimao created an uphill battle for the young Briton throughout the championship calendar.
Despite early setbacks, her performances steadily improved toward the top five, highlighted by a strong podium finish earlier in the season at Misano. Her true potential, nevertheless, was fully unlocked during an electrifying second race at the Spanish venue.
Launching cleanly off the line, the Crescent rider immediately established herself within the leading group. As the race entered its frantic closing moments, she capitalized on a precise tactical reading of her competitor's defensive lines through the final corner.
Speaking to SPEEDWEEK.com after the chequered flag, the beaming youngster reflected on her remarkable return to the rostrum. She noted how the absence of championship pressure allowed her to race freely and push to the absolute limit in the final encounter of the year.
Detailing the decisive overtaking maneuver around the outside of the final bend, she explained how previous data analysis of the Spanish rider's racing habits provided the crucial advantage needed to seal the spectacular pass right at the death.
