Former Haas Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner has praised Laurent Mekies for his calm leadership, crediting him with the Red Bull Racing outfit's recovery following Christian Horner's high-profile exit from Milton Keynes.
Laurent Mekies stepped into the role of Red Bull Racing CEO and team principal back in July 2025. The British boss's departure followed a wave of key personnel exits from the squad in recent years, including heavyweights such as Adrian Newey, Helmut Marko, and Jonathan Wheatley.

Steiner noted that Mekies inherited a team that was slightly out of control, yet handled the immense pressure with a smile, zero ego, and a steady hand. Alongside stabilizing the internal environment, Mekies also successfully managed the team through the introduction of new power units developed by Red Bull Powertrains alongside Ford for the 2026 regulations.

The hard work bore fruit when four-time world champion Max Verstappen secured his first grand prix victory of the season, which also served as the maiden win for the ambitious Red Bull Powertrains project.
Speaking on The Red Flags Podcast, Steiner applauded Mekies for completely ignoring outside noise and focusing purely on the job at hand. According to Steiner, the Frenchman's vast experience across various roles in Formula 1 allows him to absorb pressure, handle driver frustrations without overreacting, and steer the ship smoothly forward.
