Oliver Solberg is not giving up on the WRC 2025 title. Despite trailing championship leader and Toyota teammate Elfyn Evans by 21 points, the young Swede insists there is still a chance heading into the season finale at Rally Sardinia this weekend.
Victory at Rally Chile moved Solberg back into contention. He is also four points behind his other teammate, Sami Pajari, who sits second in the standings. Solberg's season has been a rollercoaster: after a sensational win at Rally Monte Carlo, he hit a tougher patch, but his form improved over the summer, consistently scoring big points on Sundays.
“The championship has looked like a long shot for us at times this year but we never gave up. It was great to get back into the fight with our result in Chile and go into this last rally with a shot at the title,” Solberg said.
“It’s a big gap to Elfyn to try to close in one rally, but we will give it everything of course, and in a rally like Sardinia, anything can still happen.”
Solberg finds himself in familiar territory in Sardinia, but with limited experience of driving top-class cars on its rocky roads. However, his pace this year suggests an all-out attack is certain.
“The stages are challenging, with fast sections where you need good commitment, as well as more technical parts where you have to be more patient,” Solberg noted. “I don’t have so much experience there, especially in the top category, but we had a good run to win the Rally2 class last year and we just have to aim for the top step once more and see what happens.”
Rally Sardinia begins with shakedown on Thursday morning, followed by the first spectator stage later in the day. The rally features 17 special stages covering just over 307 kilometres, finishing on Sunday. With high stakes and rough terrain, Sardinia could set the stage for a dramatic season finale.
