Oliver Solberg is back in the WRC title hunt after a flawless victory at Rally Chile. The win marks his first since Monte Carlo and signals a resurgence in his championship campaign.
For Solberg and co-driver Elliott Edmondson, the victory was the culmination of hard work and resilience. "We knew we were capable of it," Solberg said. "We've had some very good rallies, but everything just hasn't quite fallen into place. This weekend was perfect."
Edmondson emphasized that the key was maintaining control throughout the event. "We had everything completely under control. We did exactly what we wanted to do," he explained. Their strategy, particularly on Saturday when they focused on managing the situation, paid off handsomely.
Despite the comfortable margin, Edmondson insisted it wasn't easy. "At this level, you still have to execute everything perfectly. That is the only way to succeed," he said. However, luck was also on their side, with only one puncture occurring at the end of a short stage on Sunday, causing no drama.
Solberg admitted the season has been a rollercoaster. After a run of poor results, he and Edmondson needed to recover mentally. "We also had a good summer with podiums in Estonia and Finland. That felt really good," he recalled. Now, the Chile win is the highlight of their efforts.
With two rounds remaining, Solberg is just four points behind second-placed Sami Pajari and 21 points adrift of championship leader Elfyn Evans. "We were always the underdogs, but I think we are properly back in it now. We will at least fight for second place," he asserted.
The title race is still wide open. With growing consistency, Solberg and Edmondson are ready to apply pressure in the remaining rounds. If they can maintain this form, a championship title could be within reach.
