WRC, Sportrik Media - Sebastien Ogier of Toyota Gazoo Racing secured victory at the 2026 Canary Islands Rally after a dramatic conclusion to his battle with team-mate Oliver Solberg.
The fight for victory remained intense throughout the event, with Ogier and Solberg trading time advantages across multiple stages. However, the decisive moment came on the penultimate stage when Solberg crashed, suffering front suspension damage that forced his retirement.
This allowed Ogier to take control and secure the win with a 19.9-second margin over fellow Toyota driver Elfyn Evans, who finished second.

“Most importantly, it was really enjoyable. We were back driving a great car, and I want to thank the whole team. It was a very intense weekend, especially with Oliver,” Ogier said at the finish.
Ogier also expressed sympathy for Solberg, who had been highly competitive throughout the rally before his retirement, emphasising the value of close competition at the highest level.
“It’s a shame we couldn’t finish the rally together, but we did what we had to do. I’m very happy to add another win to my record,” he added.
The victory marks an important turnaround for Ogier after a difficult start to the season, including a modest result at Monte Carlo and a retirement at Safari Rally. Despite contesting only a partial campaign, the nine-time world champion continues to demonstrate strong performance.
Ogier highlighted that the close fight across the weekend made the victory more rewarding from a competitive standpoint.
“This is the best part. We were fighting all weekend, pushing to the limit. That’s much more enjoyable than managing a big lead,” Ogier explained.
With this result, Ogier moves to sixth in the championship standings on 58 points, still trailing leader Evans. Attention now turns to the next round in Portugal, where Ogier is set to continue his 2026 campaign.
