Motorsport, Sportrik Media - Sebastian Vettel delivered an impressive performance on his marathon debut at the 2026 London Marathon, completing the race inside his self-imposed target.
The four-time Formula 1 world champion finished the 42.195-kilometre event in 2:59:08, beating his three-hour goal by 52 seconds. The race itself was won by Kenyan athlete Sabastian Sawe in a record-breaking time of 1:59:30, marking the first official sub-two-hour marathon performance.
Vettel competed in support of two charities, the Grand Prix Trust and the Brain & Spine Foundation. He initially ran alongside Formula 1 presenter Tom Clarkson, who completed the course in 3:58:51.

"It felt very long, but it was my first time, so I didn’t know what to expect," Vettel said.
"But it’s been amazing to see how many people were along the course, and how happy everyone is. It’s a really great experience."
Throughout the race, Vettel demonstrated consistent pacing, reflecting the disciplined, metronomic approach that defined his Formula 1 career. His ability to maintain even splits across different sections of the course proved key to achieving his target time.
"I’ve always wanted to do a marathon. I’ve stayed fit and done a lot of running and cycling, so I thought it was about time," he explained.
"I set myself an ambitious goal, which I managed to achieve. I wanted to be just below three hours, and I did that, so I’m very happy."
Beyond his personal achievement, Vettel and Clarkson also exceeded their fundraising target of £5,000, with donations approaching £10,000. The effort added a significant charitable dimension to Vettel’s first marathon appearance.
"I’m even more happy that I finished. Having experienced it, I would definitely recommend others to sign up and try it."
Vettel’s successful debut highlights his continued commitment to physical performance and discipline beyond Formula 1, while also reinforcing his involvement in charitable initiatives through high-profile sporting events.
