Sami Pajari has climbed to second in the 2026 World Rally Championship standings after winning WRC Finland 2026, reducing his deficit to championship leader Elfyn Evans to 30 points.
The Finn is enjoying the strongest run of his WRC career after taking back-to-back victories. His maiden win came at Rally Estonia two weeks earlier before he carried that momentum into his home event and secured another victory in Finland.
Pajari inherited the rally lead on Saturday when Sebastien Ogier crashed out while running first. Holding a comfortable advantage over Oliver Solberg, Pajari was then able to take a more controlled approach on Sunday before securing victory by 26.7 seconds.
Elfyn Evans finished third and successfully limited his championship losses to Pajari. Evans conceded only three points across the weekend after collecting nine bonus points from Super Sunday, allowing him to retain the lead in the drivers' standings.
The result moved Pajari ahead of Takamoto Katsuta into second place in the championship. With the gap now exactly 30 points and several rounds still remaining, two consecutive victories have transformed Pajari from a regular podium contender into a genuine factor in the 2026 WRC title fight.
Toyota also continues to dominate the drivers' championship, occupying the top five positions. Katsuta sits directly behind Pajari, followed by Solberg and Ogier, while Adrien Fourmaux is the highest-placed Hyundai driver in sixth.
The same advantage is evident in the manufacturers' standings, where Toyota holds a commanding 174-point lead over Hyundai with four rounds remaining. The championship continues at Rally Paraguay at the end of August, where Pajari will aim to maintain his momentum and increase the pressure on Evans.
