Red Bull to Replace Gianpiero Lambiase with Tom McCullough from Aston Martin

Red Bull Racing is reportedly not sitting still amid a wave of key personnel departures. According to a fresh report from German media outlet BILD, the Milton Keynes-based team has found a successor to Gianpiero Lambiase—Max Verstappen's race engineer—in the form of Tom McCullough, currently Aston Martin's performance director.

The decision comes after Red Bull confirmed earlier this year that Lambiase would leave, ending a decade-long partnership with Max Verstappen. While an exact date has not been announced, Lambiase's departure marks another chapter in Red Bull's transitional period.

McCullough, who has been responsible for Aston Martin's car performance, is expected to take on a dual role: head of race engineering and Verstappen's race engineer—a position Lambiase has held since 2022. However, BILD reports that McCullough's start date at Red Bull has yet to be determined.

This move signals Red Bull's ambition to return to the forefront of Formula 1. After losing several key figures such as Adrian Newey, Rob Marshall, Jonathan Wheatley, and even Christian Horner and Helmut Marko who were rumoured to have left, Red Bull is working to rebuild its technical structure. Earlier, they also recruited Gwen Lagrue from Mercedes to lead their junior driver programme, effective 2027.

With McCullough's arrival, Red Bull appears to be ensuring a smooth transition on the technical side, especially in maintaining Verstappen's performance, which has long relied on communication and strategy from his race engineer. The question remains: can McCullough fill Lambiase's big shoes?
