Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Red Bull Racing has confirmed that a fix for the troubled rear wing used by Max Verstappen will be available at the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix.

The component nicknamed the “Macarena” wing was removed for the Belgian Grand Prix after being linked to two separate incidents involving Verstappen in Austria and Britain.

The first problem appeared when Max Verstappen crashed during qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix. He then spun out of third place at the British Grand Prix after the airflow around the rear wing failed to reattach quickly enough once the flap closed.

Although both failures were mechanically related, Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies stressed that they had different causes. The team therefore suspended the design while solutions were developed at its Milton Keynes headquarters.

For the Belgian Grand Prix, Red Bull returned to an older-specification rear wing with a conventional DRS-style flap. The decision helped Verstappen finish third and secure his third podium of the 2026 season.

“It was mechanical, and it was two different things. So there were two separate mechanical issues. We will have a fix for Budapest,” Laurent Mekies said.

Verstappen felt the older wing performed reasonably well, particularly because the car remained controllable throughout the race. He also experienced slightly better balance and improved competitiveness compared with several previous rounds.

“The old rear wing performed well. I kept the car on the road, which is the first important thing. We were a little more competitive and the balance was slightly better,” Verstappen said.

However, the Dutch driver acknowledged that Red Bull continued to struggle on the hard tyre. That showed the return to the previous design improved stability without completely resolving the car’s wider performance limitations.

The planned Hungarian Grand Prix fix will therefore represent an important test for Red Bull. The team must ensure the updated design delivers its intended aerodynamic benefit while also providing enough mechanical reliability for Verstappen to use it without risking another failure.
