Raul Fernandez has honestly admitted that he does not consider himself a MotoGP 2026 title contender. The Trackhouse rider made the statement during the pre-event press conference ahead of the Aragon Grand Prix, where he was one of four riders invited to speak to the media.
Despite still being mathematically in with a chance, with a 56-point deficit to the top and 370 points still up for grabs, Fernandez chose to remain grounded. “Everyone thinks I can fight for the title, but I don’t feel like that,” he said. He added that he is simply trying to do his best in every race, as he has shown with his victory at Silverstone.
The Spanish rider acknowledged that his experience is still far behind his main rivals. He mentioned Marc Marquez as last year’s world champion, Jorge Martin two years ago, and Marco Bezzecchi who finished third last season. Fernandez himself admitted that the last time he felt competitive for a title was in 2021, so he prefers to enjoy the current positive moment.
“I haven’t felt the sensation of being able to fight for a title since 2021, so for me we are not title contenders yet. We are just enjoying the moment, and we’ll see how things go in the last 3-4 races,” he explained honestly.
When asked who he thinks has the best chance of becoming champion among the three, Fernandez gave a diplomatic answer. He admitted that Marc Marquez has been his idol since childhood, but this season he finds it difficult to pick one name.
“If I had to choose based on the first half of the season, I would say Marco. For the recent races, Marc. And considering the whole season, Jorge. So I really don’t know what will happen. I wouldn’t bet, and certainly not with my own money,” he said with a smile.
