Raul Fernandez made a stellar return to the premier class grid following finger injury recovery by securing a commendable podium finish at the Lusail International Circuit. However, the Trackhouse rider could not hide his lingering frustration regarding fuel management struggles that cost him second place.

The Spaniard rocketed from fourth to second place right behind Marco Bezzecchi on the opening lap. Staying tucked in the slipstream of his fellow Aprilia stablemate was supposed to be a clever tactical move to conserve critical fuel consumption.

"I am really happy to be back on the podium," Fernandez said in his post-race media debrief. "To be honest, I didn't really expect to come here and fight for the podium. The target was just to see how the fingers were on the bike."

Despite experiencing minimal pain on track, his fuel consumption remained critically high during the early phase. After completing six or seven laps, he began facing serious limitations with his fuel map, forcing him to alter his rhythm and defend against incoming threats.

That vulnerability opened the door for Marc Marquez to launch a late surge. The Ducati factory star hunted down the Aprilia rider in the closing laps and snatched the runner-up spot by a margin of just over half a second at the checkered flag.

"For sure, I am a little bit frustrated, because at the beginning of the race I tried to save fuel and I was not able to do it properly. When Marc overtook me, I just tried to stay with him because before the end of the season I want to battle with him," he explained.

He also pointed out specific telemetry weaknesses exiting the final corner onto the main straight compared to the dominant race leader. Following this strong performance in the desert heat, Fernandez maintains his seventh position in the World Championship standings with two rounds remaining.
