Heading into this weekend's action, Raul Fernandez—who claimed his maiden premier-class victory at Phillip Island last year—admits he will shed a few tears. The Spanish rider expressed deep affection for the iconic seaside circuit as it prepares to host its final Australian Grand Prix.
Fernandez inherited the lead during last year's memorable encounter when Marco Bezzecchi served a long-lap penalty. He then maintained a commanding gap over chasing rivals such as Pedro Acosta and Alex Marquez to secure a historic win for the Trackhouse squad.
"Yes, I will cry a little bit," Fernandez said regarding the final Australian Grand Prix at the venue. "Not because I got my first MotoGP victory here but also because I always enjoy it a lot coming here to Phillip Island - it is super nice."
Meanwhile, teammate Ai Ogura arrives aiming for a much stronger performance following his recovery and experience. Team principal Davide Brivio remains optimistic that the Aprilia machines will once again harness their exceptional high-speed corner stability to fight at the front.
