The opening day of the MotoGP weekend at Phillip Island brought a dramatic mix of emotions for Raul Fernandez on his 25th birthday, featuring a heavy crash followed by an impressive second-place finish in practice. The Trackhouse Aprilia rider successfully secured a direct ticket to Q2, though the physical toll on his body became an undeniable obstacle alongside the lingering finger fractures he has carried since Mandalika.
Dealing with the aftermath of a violent morning spill, the Spanish rider admitted that his body felt stiff and sore. With limited physical reserves left in the tank, his approach shifted immediately toward damage control and strategic energy conservation to ensure he could maximize his performance for the remainder of the Grand Prix weekend.
Knowing that unstable weather conditions loomed on the horizon, Raul Fernandez prioritized locking down a direct Q2 spot to bypass the treacherous Q1 elimination rounds. Finishing right behind fellow Aprilia stablemate Marco Bezzecchi proved that his tactical approach on track paid off despite his physical setbacks.

However, the prospect of wet weather racing does not bring any comfort to the Trackhouse rider. Due to his finger injuries, he is forced to use a different braking technique, robbing him of the microscopic precision required to master a slippery wet asphalt surface safely.
Looking beyond the Australian round, the upcoming challenge in Sepang remains a massive source of worry. The heavy braking zones in Malaysia will place an even harsher strain on his recovering hand, testing his limits as he fights through pain in the final stretch of the championship.
