Rafa Camara Calls Madrid F2 Qualifying 'Stressful' After Red Flags

Rafa Camara admitted that Formula 2 qualifying in Madrid was one of the most nerve-wracking sessions of the season. Three red flags interrupted the session, breaking concentration and making it difficult for drivers to build momentum at the brand-new Madring circuit.

For Camara, the challenge was not just about speed but also about maintaining focus amid constant stoppages. "With the red flags, it's difficult to keep focused the whole time. It's also difficult to create momentum, and it definitely was not an easy one for me, especially getting to the end of the session without a really decent lap," he said.

The Madring circuit itself presents unusual characteristics: narrow walls and blind corners. Additionally, F2 had the least practice time compared to F3 and F1, forcing drivers to adapt quickly. Camara noted that the combination made everything 'tricky'.

"It was tricky to get the last lap and just close in a good way. It was a bit stressful for me, but I was able to close well without risking too much and be in a good place, so happy," he added.

The pressure intensified when drivers realized they had no representative lap heading into the final moments. Camara admitted it made him stressed, but he tried to focus on what he could control. "I was really trying to focus on the moment and what I could control, and putting the lap down at the end," he explained.

In the end, Camara secured third position, beating his main championship rivals. He will start ahead of Tsolov, who holds the points advantage, but momentum is now with the Brazilian. With many rounds remaining, the title fight is still wide open.

Camara remains optimistic for the races. "We're in P3, a good place for the races, and I'm sure we can have a good weekend from here," he concluded.
