Racing Bulls are chasing the best result in their Formula 1 history. The Faenza-based team is currently embroiled in a fierce duel with Alpine, both on track and in car development. A series of updates throughout the season have clawed back the deficit caused by a late start to the 2026 project, reaping the rewards of the team's reorganisation in recent years.
If Racing Bulls are now able to target fifth place, it is largely down to their in-season development. The 2026 campaign did not start smoothly for VCARB. The team paid a heavy price for diverting resources to update the 2025 car, which slowed work on the 2026 project. However, Racing Bulls were clever in catching up by introducing constant and effective updates, overseen for the first time by Dan Fallows, the new technical director from April.
The turning point came with a new floor introduced in Canada, which immediately made the Faenza car shine. Between Austria and Silverstone, the focus was on improving race pace, including setup adjustments. At Spa, another major update package debuted, with changes to the bodywork, front brake calipers, and even the chassis in the roll-hoop area. At Monza, a new low-downforce rear wing appeared, featuring foldable movable profiles. Racing Bulls became the fourth team to have a Macarena wing, and the first in the midfield to develop that solution. Finally in Baku, internal aerodynamic corrections arrived, covering the wing, suspension arm fairings, and brake ducts.
The Italian team is now chasing an extraordinary fifth place in the constructors' standings, but must be wary of Alpine's resurgence. The Anglo-French team introduced a large update package between Zandvoort and Monza, giving new life to the Enstone cars. Meanwhile, the injury suffered by Liam Lawson cost Racing Bulls their lead driver for three races, and they paid dearly despite Yuki Tsunoda performing reasonably well as a substitute.
Regardless, the Faenza team is still in the fight for fifth place, and that in itself is an extraordinary achievement. The 2026 regulatory revolution is the most complex in thirty years, burdening teams with an unprecedented workload in design and manufacturing. Amid that pressure, Racing Bulls have shown resilience and consistency rarely seen in a team of their size.
The duel with Alpine will be one of the most intriguing storylines for the rest of the season. The two teams have different philosophies: Alpine with the resources of a manufacturer in Renault, Racing Bulls with the agility of a satellite team now bolstered by a capable technical structure. Every point will matter, and end-of-season development strategies could be decisive.
One thing is clear: what Racing Bulls have achieved this season deserves appreciation. They are not just a satellite team, but a serious contender capable of challenging the top teams. If fifth place is realised, it will be a milestone for the team based in Faenza.
