Fabio Quartararo could not hide his disappointment after Friday practice at the Aragon MotoGP, a circuit where he had expected to struggle. The Monster Energy Yamaha rider admitted he feels 'really bad' on the bike, despite having anticipated a tough weekend at MotorLand.
The Frenchman was the fastest Yamaha on Friday, but that only placed him 14th overall, over a second adrift of the new lap record set by Marco Bezzecchi. It was another sobering reminder of Yamaha's ongoing struggles and Quartararo's difficult final season with the Japanese manufacturer before his anticipated move.
Quartararo has been open about his lack of motivation in what looks set to be a winless campaign for him, stretching back to July 2022. At Aragon, he complained of a poor feeling, an inability to ride with flow, and no room to push the bike to its limits.

“Really bad, to be honest,” Fabio Quartararo said of his Friday. “I expect to be struggling in this track, so it's not something that was a surprise. But especially we don't have any points where I can push. Also my feeling is not great. I'm not riding like in one [motion]. I'm braking, then I'm doing all in steps, so I'm clearly not feeling good, unfortunately.”
Quartararo was also pessimistic about qualifying, feeling he cannot push even for a single flying lap, let alone maintain consistency over a race distance. “I'm not even able to push in one lap, so it will be difficult,” he said. “I think we are in the position that we expect. To be honest, even better, because we know the potential of our bike. So we will try our best, and especially trying to get a bit of pace and consistency, because I'm not able to make two laps in a row.”
Behind him, the other Yamahas fared no better: Alex Rins was 16th, Jack Miller 19th, and Toprak Razgatlioglu 21st. The clear gap between Yamaha and the frontrunners highlights a fundamental problem with the bike that the team must address urgently. For Quartararo, it is yet another test of patience as he looks ahead to a new chapter in his career.
