The MotoGP Sprint race at the Lusail International Circuit was dramatically red-flagged following a terrifying opening-lap accident involving Pecco Bagnaia. The high-stakes showdown was brought to an immediate halt as marshals and medical crews rushed to secure the track after a multi-bike skirmish at the end of the first lap.
Bagnaia had initially executed a stellar launch from the grid, fighting his way up to third place behind Aprilia's pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi and factory Ducati teammate Marc Marquez. However, he soon found himself embroiled in a fierce battle as Fabio di Giannantonio and Raul Fernandez applied intense pressure.
The disaster struck when returning Gresini Ducati rider Fermin Aldeguer misjudged his braking zone while attempting an ambitious overtaking maneuver on Pedro Acosta into the final corner. The rookie rammed directly into the side of Bagnaia, triggering a massive, violent highside that sent the dual world champion tumbling through the air.

Race control instantly displayed the red flags to neutralize the session as medical personnel attended to the stricken Italian rider. Fortunately, Bagnaia was reported to be conscious before being carried away from the gravel trap on a stretcher for further medical evaluation.
Officials confirmed that the restart will span over ten laps, losing one lap from the original distance. Meanwhile, race stewards handed Aldeguer a double long lap penalty for his reckless maneuver that eliminated one of the championship contenders from the sprint.
